Diet
Mainly medium and large hoofed mammals
Habitat
Forest; in Bhutan, Jigme Dorji National Park
Range
South, East and Southeast Asia, including Bhutan
The dhole is the only member of the genus Cuon. It differs from the true wolves and dogs in having a convex rather than concave skull profile, no third lower molar, and upper molars with a single cusp. It is a diurnal pack hunter that preferentially targets large and medium hoofed animals and makes screaming calls when attacking prey (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is highly social, living in clans of usually about twelve, though groups of over forty are known. In Bhutan the dhole is present in Jigme Dorji National Park. Livestock predation by dholes has been a problem in Bhutan since the late 1990s, as domestic animals are often left to graze in the forest, sometimes for weeks at a time.
