The brown dipper, also called Pallas's, Asian or Asiatic dipper, is an aquatic songbird of the mountains of the east Palearctic. It is a thrush-like bird with a cocked tail and chocolate-brown plumage, the back and breast slightly lighter. At 22cm and 87g it is the largest of the dippers (Wikipedia, general species account).
It can feed by diving into streams to take larger bottom-living organisms, or by wading in shallows and picking smaller organisms from the bottom. Diving is used in the breeding season, when more food is needed, and chicks and fledglings also forage by diving; for the rest of the year adults forage by wading. One small population in Siberia winters at a hot spring and feeds underwater when air temperatures fall below −55°C. The account opened does not name Bhutan.
