The black-throated prinia is a large prinia, 12 to 17cm long and weighing 8 to 16g, with an extremely long tail making up to 10cm of its length. It is found in the eastern Himalayas from eastern Nepal through northern India, Bhutan and south-western China, in scrubby and open habitats including forest edge and clearings, generally at 900 to 2,800m (Wikipedia, general species account).
Males and females look alike, though males are slightly larger with a longer tail. The throat is white in the non-breeding season but black, breaking into splotches on the breast, when breeding. It is an active forager, met singly, in pairs or in small family groups near the ground in tangled vegetation, continuously moving its long tail. It breeds from March to June, in a round clump of grasses attached to grass stalks about 60cm up.
