Basic stats

Habitat

Tall forest; loose cup nest in a tree

Range

Eastern and Southeast Asia; Himalayan birds winter on the peninsula

Clutch size

3–4 reddish or brown eggs, May to June

The ashy drongo is mainly dark grey with a long, deeply forked tail and a crimson iris. It is found in taller forest, and its dark grey underside lacks the sheen of the black drongo. Calls are more nasal and twangy than the black drongo's. Subspecies vary in the shade of grey, and some have white patches near the eye. Young birds are dull brownish grey (Wikipedia, general species account).

The Himalayan form winters on the Indian peninsula, and many northern populations are migratory. Birds are found singly, in pairs or in small groups. The breeding season is May to June, with three or four reddish or brown eggs in a loose cup nest in a tree. The account opened does not name Bhutan.
