Tickell's thrush is a small thrush, 21 to 25cm long and weighing 57 to 75g, similar in size to a redwing and distinctly smaller than the Indian blackbird. Males have uniform blue-grey upperparts and a whitish belly and vent, while females and young birds have browner upperparts. Adults have a yellow beak and legs and a yellow eye-ring, thinner and fainter than the Indian blackbird's (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is common in open forest in the Himalayas and breeds at 1,200 to 2,700m, rarely up to 3,000m, from north-eastern Afghanistan east to Sikkim and western Bhutan. It builds nests from April to June, using mostly dry grass, and migrates south and to lower altitudes in winter. The breeding habitat is broadleaf or mixed forest with clearings, including orchards and large gardens.
