Pallas's fish eagle is a large brownish sea eagle, 72 to 85cm long with a wingspan of 180 to 215cm. It has a light sandy-brown hood and whitish face, darker brown wings and a rufous back, and a black tail with a wide white stripe. Juveniles are darker and cooler brown with no tail band, taking until about the fourth year to reach adult plumage (Wikipedia, general species account).

It breeds in the east Palearctic, including Bhutan, and is partially migratory, with Central Asian birds wintering among the southern Asian birds in northern India. Its diet is primarily large freshwater fish, but it is broadly opportunistic and regularly takes water birds, as well as mammals, frogs, reptiles and carrion.
