The mainland serow is a goat-antelope of the Himalayas, Southeast Asia and China. Only males carry the light-coloured horns, about 150mm long and curving slightly back. Both sexes stand about 91cm at the shoulder and weigh about 91kg, and the coat has bristly, coarse guard hairs over the underfur (Wikipedia, general species account).
The serow is territorial and lives alone or in small groups, with peaks of activity by day and by night. A female gives birth to a single young after about eight months. In Assam it lives in hilly forest above 300m, descending in winter, and in the Nepal Himalayas it prefers 2,500 to 3,500m. The sources opened give no Bhutan-specific information.
