The fire-tailed myzornis is a small warbler-like bird, 11 to 13cm long and weighing 10 to 13g, the only member of its genus. It has bright green plumage with a black mask around the eyes and black scalloping on the crown; the wing is black and white with a streak of bright red, the sides of the tail are bright red, and the bill is long, slightly curved and black (Wikipedia, general species account).
It feeds on insects, spiders and small arthropods, and also takes fruit, nectar, particularly from rhododendron flowers, and tree sap. It is found in the Himalaya in Bhutan, south-western China, north-eastern India, northern Myanmar and Nepal. The breeding season is mainly April to June, but juveniles have been seen in mid-September in Bhutan. It is usually silent, with a high-pitched 'tsi-tsit' call.
