The black-eared shrike-babbler is a bird of the vireo family, found in Southeast Asia from the Himalayas to western Malaysia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest (Wikipedia, general species account).

It was traditionally considered an aberrant Old World babbler and formerly placed in the family Timaliidae; it was long noted that its habits resembled those of vireos, which was previously ascribed to convergent evolution.
