Elephas maximus
Diet
Herbivore; about 150kg of vegetation a day
Range
Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, including Bhutan
The Asian elephant is distributed across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India in the west to Borneo in the east. It is herbivorous, eating about 150kg of vegetation a day, and wild animals live to about 60 years. Captive populations are declining because of a low birth rate and a high death rate (Wikipedia, general species account).
In the eastern Himalaya in north-east India, elephants regularly move above 3,000m in summer at a few sites. The sources opened do not describe elephants in Bhutan itself, so no counts or park names are given here.
