Range

Pakistan and the Himalayas east to Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia; an altitudinal migrant

The mountain scops owl, sometimes called the spotted scops owl, is a small owl whose range extends across much of South and Southeast Asia, from Pakistan and the Himalayas in the north-west through Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia in the east and south. The nominate form of the eastern Himalayas has a distinct, more russet plumage. It is an altitudinal migrant (Wikipedia, general species account).

The owls have a short, high-pitched call like a two-note whistle, 'plew-plew' or 'he-he', though the female's songs are rarely heard, and calls differ between geographic populations. The short source read gives no size, diet or breeding detail, so none is stated.
