The little spiderhunter is a long-billed, nectar-feeding bird of the moist forests of South and Southeast Asia, found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Unlike typical sunbirds, males and females are very similar in plumage, and the male has an all-black beak (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is usually seen alone or in pairs and frequently gives a 'tzeck' call, a buzzy 'zick-zick' when disturbed or foraging, and a song of rapid chipping notes. The breeding season in north-eastern India is March to September, mainly May to August. The nest is a compact cup attached under a leaf of banana or a similar broad-leaved plant, with two eggs the usual clutch.
