Cutia nipalensis
Habitat
Broadleaf forest, e.g. oaks, of the foothills upwards of about 1,500m, rarely above 2,500m
Range
The Himalayan region from India to northern Thailand; a subspecies in Peninsular Malaysia
The Himalayan cutia is a member of the family Leiothrichidae. Its scientific name ultimately means 'the khutya from Nepal', as Cutia derives from the Nepali name for these birds. It inhabits the Himalayan region from India to northern Thailand, with a subspecies in Peninsular Malaysia (Wikipedia, general species account).
The Vietnamese cutia, long lumped with the Himalayan birds, has recently been raised to full species. Its natural habitats are tropical to subtropical humid montane forests, but it is not a bird of the high mountains: it inhabits broadleaf forest such as oaks from about 1,500m upwards, rarely ascending above 2,500m.
