The black redstart is a small passerine in the Old World flycatcher family and a widespread breeder in rocky habitats across Eurasia and North Africa, from the British Isles south to Morocco and east to central China. It is 13 to 14.5cm long and weighs 12 to 20g. The adult male is dark grey to black above with a black breast and an orange-red lower rump and tail; the eastern subspecies has an orange-red belly and undertail and blackish wings (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is resident in the milder parts of its range, but northern and eastern birds migrate. The clutch is four to six eggs, laid daily, usually white but sometimes pale blue, incubated by the female for 13 to 17 days after the final egg is laid. Both parents feed the young, which fledge after 12 to 19 days. The account opened does not name Bhutan.
